Congratulations to Mick Keene who has won the Audco league with a round still to go (delayed /rearranged October), so far he has 10 points with worst 3 dropped and can't be caught with the final round to held on Parkers Pool in October. He's been consistent all season and on this league even more so. Well done.
The club welcomes all new members and are it's very encouraging to see Juniors taking up fishing. It really is great to see so many enthusiastic people fishing the venue. We know many are very new to sport, we have noticed more litter on the banks and would like to remind members of the importance to take any litter home with you please or place it in the blue bin. This is very important as it can cause problems for the wildlife around the pool.
The club are planning to run some Junior matches and fishing guidance sessions in 2026, this will help any newbies in the sport and will be free to attend.
We would also like to point out that allthough no specific rule is in place (Yet) that using Spinners, lures etc should NOT be happening on the pool. There are NO Pike / Zander etc in the venue so we ask please do not use these on ANY of the club waters. There will be some up and coming review of he rules so please check back here for updates. Thanks in advance for your kind co-operation.
The club are delighted to confirm since July we have a new baliff on our team for Bearcroft Pool Hinstock. We welcome Tim Glews a keen club angler from Hinstock and are happy he's agreed to help us with monitoring things on Bearcroft Pool. He lives locally and both Tim and Stuart Miles will be regulars around the pool.
Congratulations to team Audco who won the Away leg v Hodnet AC on Preeswood Pool. An Audco top 3 too, see match results for more infomation.

The club wish all our members, their families and everyone, have a fantastic festive period and we look forward to seeing you on the bank in 2025. A happy new year and tight lines!
Well, what a strange year it’s been, so much rain has meant Long Lane has been under year most of the year, with bigger matches being postponed and venues changes due to weather as such, it was July before a league round was fished on Long Lane.
We also lost another club legend, it’s with a heavy heart we said goodbye to Gerald Large. A really nice guy and one of the good guys, a popular angler liked by all and one that is missed by most, we hope to honour his (along with others) memory with an annual rods only memorial match.
We’ve continued to invest funds in the waters and some fabulous work has been undertaken at Long Lane by several of the guys, so my personal thanks to Rich Cavey, Dave Burton, Phil Bowen and all the other guys who put the hours in on those wonderful pegs. We have also managed to secure the lease for another 4 years on Bearcroft pool and following successful stocking program have seen the popularity (and fishing) improve a good deal and it’s nice to see many regular pleasure anglers visiting the pool. The regular matches have continued on the venue (mostly Weds / Saturdays) so thanks to Mick Price and crew for running those matches throughout 2024.
We have continued to forge very good working relationships with other Angling clubs, with Hodnet AC, Wyche Angling and T.A.A. and have formed very good contacts with all. We have a close fishing relationship with Hodnet who we have had venue swaps and inter-club matches, and we have joined up with them this Winter for S.U.C matches, which Phil Bowen is running from an Audco point of view.
The club have continued with good levels of membership in 2024, retaining many fishermen and selling out just under 200 cards for the year. This along with peg fees generated by the various match men and other clubs, enables reinvestment into waters, maintenance and new waters if they become available.
The club have run plenty of matches with Harry and co running regular matches, I’ve continued with the annual Series for 2024, and the silver matches have been very very popular with a lot of Anglers. The club is in an excellent position as far as matches are concerned.
It’s been a real team effort from Members (and non members) to make it a successful year the club, much work goes on behind the scenes with likes of Treasurer, club secretary and committee members being dedicated to make it a good club to join and pleasure to be part of.
I’d like to wish all members very best for festive season and tight lines for 2025!

We have had reports of Anglers leaving tackle un-attended on Long Lane. We would like remind all members not to do this please, it's understanable if nature calls or there is an emergency of course, but please be mindful to remove terminal tackle and bait from water and ensure rods/ poles aren't left unattended (with bait on) on the bank. It's a danger to the wildlife and no one wants to lose tackle to it being dragged in by a fish!
We have been invited to fish with the Hodnet guys on the shroppy this Autumn and Winter, so we have switched our Saturday S.U.C Matches (when they coincide with Hodnet AC's) booking on is essential, so please contact Phil Bowen if you want to be booked on. The dates . . .
27th October - Hinstock Wood
10th Nov - Drayton Marina
24th Nov - Hinstock Wood
1st Dec - Drayton Marina
8th Dec - Honesty Box
Steff Davies won the final round and confirmed series win at his first attempt. Finsihing the series with a win of 57lb on Long Lane peg 15b closely pipping Dave Jones (Peg 17) who had 56lb. The series has been well attended again in 2024, but blighted abit due to venue closures and necessary water changes on the fly. Thanks to everyone who atteneded this year and we look forward to 2025 to go again!
A massive thank you and well done to the guys who have put in hours of their time over last few Mondays. The new peg work and pool tiyding continues. These guys have given their time voluntary, and what fantastic job of the pegs too. . .
The guys have constrcuted several new pegs with more to follow, as well as lots of cutting / bank clearing. There is more that will be done over coming weeks (schedules and weather permitting). But looking really good.
It is with great remorse that we announce the very sad passing of club angling legend and feeder master, Gerald "Gerry" Large. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at home recenlty, a big shock to us all. Gerald was a popular person and a real gentleman, an absolute pleasure to fish alongside. He will be very greatly missed by all of us in the Angling community and all that knew him.
The Funeral service is scheduled for 2pm on Friday July 5th at Shrewsbury Crem, followed by a gathering at Whitchurch Rugby club for light refreshments.
No flowers please but donations are very welcome which will go towards two charities (RSPB & Cancer Research).
It is with great sadness that we report the passing of a popular Angler and valued member of the Audco club. Roy Biddulph passed away recently and the club wish to extend our condolences to his friends and family, he was a very popular Angler and very nice guy. R.I.P Roy.
November 2023
The year has almost gone already and how quickly things move along, or so it seems! We’ve had a busy year at the Fishing club, following changes from 2022 and got through plenty of work in process!
We’ve invested funds in materials, and stock for our waters and Bearcroft Pool has seen plenty of investment of time and money over last 12 months (and beyond), we’ve continued the re-stocking with a few hundred more Tench and Crucian Carp, following previous years Tench and F1 stock. Added to the decent number of silvers and fish we have in the lake; it was pleasing to see the fish showing right through the warmer months and Anglers (both match and pleasure) have enjoyed plenty of bites and good sport from these fish!
We have also worked hard at removing as much weed as possible, and with good water management have kept on top of it (thanks to all involved in the on-going work), it’s been in very fine condition (and form) and testimony to that, is we now see “regulars” on the venue most weeks.
Long Lane has also been fishing well through the year, with plenty of work carried out to repair pegs, remove fallen trees etc. The pool is in good condition and the fish are prospering.
It’s also been very pleasing that we’re able to work closely with other Angling clubs, with pool sharing / swaps etc and are delighted to have recently added 3 more stretches of the Shropshire Union canal, thanks to an agreement with Wyche to sub-let and we’ve continued our arrangement for Honeysuckle canal (thanks to honeysuckle AC). We have enjoyed some good team matches and pool swaps with Hodnet AC and we enjoy lower peg fees for T.A.A waters (due to our affiliation with T.A.A).
The club have continued with good levels of membership in 2023, retaining many fishermen and selling out just under 200 cards for the year. This along with peg fees generated by the various match men and other clubs, enables reinvestment into waters, maintenance and new waters if they become available.
The club have run plenty of matches with Harry and co running regular matches, I’ve continued with the annual Series, which now has a waiting list for spaces for 2024 and the silver matches have been very very popular with a lot of Anglers. The club is in an excellent position as far as matches are concerned.
It’s been a real team effort from Members (and none members) to make it a successful year the club, much work goes on behind the scenes with likes of Treasurer, club secretary and committee members being dedicated to make it a good club to join and pleasure to be part of.
I’d like to wish all members very best for festive season and tight lines for 2024!

Gerry Powell became the 2023 League Champion on Sunday and did it in style by winning the final Match on Apley with 67LB 10oz. It was finally contested league with Gerald leading the way going into the final match, so nip and tuck to the end. Last years champion (Gerald Large) was runner up and Phil Bowen was 3rd place, see more info on match results and the series.
There is an event the first weekend in September in Hinstock (Fun Run) which is an organised charity event. This will see many people in the village and will also see alot of cars likely in the hall car park. The Pool may also have some cordining off (some areas) during the event day. We aren't closing the pool but would advise Anglers that it might be noisy or busy!
News reached us today (20th July 2023) that a KHV outbreak has occured on Leegomery Pools in Telford. As a precautionary measure the committee have implemented a ban on keepnets on our club waters when pleasure fishing. In matches nets MUST be dried properley prior to use to minimize risks. If any of memebers have fished the affected waters then Nets, Weighing slings, mats etc must be disinfected and dried in natural light prior to using anywhere else.
The Fish Health Inspectorate (FHI) at Cefas have confirmed an outbreak of KoI Herpesvirus Disease at Leegomery Pools in Telford and controls have been put in place there to prevent further spread of the disease and the FHI are currently assessing the extent of the outbreak and available options. More details can be accesssed via the .gov website, details of such sites can be found
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/prevent-fish-or-shellfish-diseases
Due to this local outbreak, we're being cautious and placing keepnet ban on waters, we need to protect our fish stocks as much as possible and appreciate member understanding in this matter.
Sadly we've heard news that a small Swan has died on one of the Canal stretches due to fishing line. We do not know what specific stretch this happend, but nevertheless it disturbing to hear. We ask all fishermen (regardless of club) to be extra carefull when on the banks not to leave any discarded lines or hooks. We all need to look after the wildlife and ensure a safe environment for all. Please double check your pegs before leaving to ensure no line or hooks have been dropped. As usual we appreciate your co-operation.
